  Don't Be Shy

Since ancient China, an “emperor,” could harem three thousand. Even so, sex has always been a difficult topic in China. In ancient time, if we talked about sex in a book, then our book will be banned.” During the Cultural Revolution, we would be burned by peeking when women use the toilet, in that time, all about sex topic is prohibited. Even today in China, if we talk about sex who will be labeled as hooligans. Therefore, compared to the Western world, China is considered more sexually conservative. However, is this the real case? In reality, many of the young Chinese are more interested in sex than previously thought. In fact, About 40.5 percent of Chinese men have multiple sex partners during their life, and over 26.7 percent have more than 10 sex partners in their life (Sexual Statistics - China Daily). However, compared to the men it seems that. Chinese women lack of sexual knowledge, nearly half of Chinese women said they are reluctant to have sexual intercourse with their partners and 17 percent of women have no idea about sex techniques (Sexual Statistics - China Daily). How did this happen? These were made by faulty sex education in China. In China’s high schools, students are busy preparing for the national college entrance, known as the test are called “Gao Kao,” sexual education was of no use to them. In China, most of parents and teacher are think highly of children’s academic achievement, not pay more attention on children’s psychological qualities. Despite the emphasis on education in China, sex education has largely been ignored by the educational system. This has been problematic, especially on college campuses, because when students step into colleges, sex has become a public topic, but sex education has not been a priority in China. Therefore, lack of sexual education in China leads the high rate of abortion, sexual crime and the misunderstanding of sex.

First of all, when we walk around the campus of Chinese colleges, we can see there are many hotels around the campus, it make up “a beautiful scenic route.” it just like good economic effect. There is a subconsciousness among Chinese college students that a four-year college life would not be a completed one if there is no experience of sex. Meanwhile, frequent sexual active make many college students get abortion. According to the survey from sina article “Lack of sex education blamed for China’s rising abortion rate”from the statistic show that over 50 percent of college students in China agree with premarital sex. Also, to astonishment, there are about 13 million number of college students in China get abortion annually, that is a high number as a percentage. Most of girls is near 50 percent of them are under 25 years old, this makes us known that college students are the major force. Every year during the summer and winter vacation, there is a peak period of people who take abortion. What is more, the August, has already been labeled as “the month of abortion.” As we all know, abortion causes harm to woman's health including potential body damage. Bleeding, infertility and womb damage is occurred commonly on those female college students. Therefore, we can see that the lack of sexual education in China bring high abortion rate especially to female college students and endanger their body health. In our country, many girls not educated about birth control, owning to it is difficult to open their hearts to accept sex-related topics, they always shy to avoid it. I think educational system can put some related things in our textbook.

Secondly, lack of education leads to a lot of sexual crimes. In the article “Sex Education Needs More Attention,” it shows that “parents and teacher are hard to face sex question, and sex education in China is not a problem of sex knowledge, but a lack of proper education. Students should be taught about family values, morals and other values related to sex.” because of parents and teacher never told child about sex, so, it lead most of child don’t realize how seriously about sexual crimes and what behavior can cause sexual crime. In this case, sex education played an important role in sex crime. Some young people will through many kind of ways cause sexual crimes, such as, lure young girls into prostitution, organizing pornographic performances and so on. However, lack of education will cause some social sexual violence, and date rape. Date rape usually involves alcohol. In China, we have no limit age to buy alcohol, we can buy it whenever we want. Date rape not only cause physical harm, as well as the spirit of, it will cause a big damage. Also, official statistics show that the number of crimes committed by young people in China accounts for 70 percent of total, and 30 percent of these are related to sex. (China.Org.Com) Nowadays, teenagers in China are entering puberty earlier than before, leading to more sexual activity before marriage among teenagers. From the article “Sex crimes by minors on increase” Xie Chuangjiao state that Sex crimes by minors are increasing one of because of pornography and a breakdown in family values, another factor behind the increase in sex crimes by minors is the earlier onset of puberty. So I believe under family correct guidance and the maturity of children’s own thinking, sexual crime will be turned better.

Last but not least, lack of sexual education lead misunderstanding to China and young people fall into bad sexual habits. For example, students buy some pornography or looking for prostitutes. Because of the conservative altitude, students cannot be educated positively. However, students in China attempted to download pornographic online and buy adult magazines by bad channels. From the article “Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex (But Didn't Learn Because You Grew Up in China)” Michelle Tsai post some example that "I am 18 years old, and my girlfriend is 16. We held hands and kissed, so I am afraid that she will get pregnant. Will she?" and "I am 20 years old, and I've had four abortions. Can I have a child when I get married in the future?" from those two questions, we can realized that China have a big problems in sex education. Lack of knowledge and bad sexual habits both can have serious consequences. Students will have a life of crime and infectious diseases. Thus, I think teacher and parents should teach children in a good way instead of shy or avoid this topic. From the article “School Sexual Education in China” we can know sexuality education is a controversial topic and taboo, it is very common in China for parents and teachers to hesitate or not be willing to educate in the name of cultural beliefs, habits or moral values. Therefore, it will cause some problems that is rise in sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies. According to the Ministry of Health, China has an estimated number of 740,000 people infected with HIV. Seventy-five per cent of new infections in 2009 were transmitted through sexual contact. In Beijing normal university more than 90 per cent of students rated the sexuality education course as very useful to them, and their knowledge, attitudes and practice have improved significantly as compared to the control group. Teachers are at the heart of all educational development and reform. Sexuality education will provide the pre-service teachers with the right attitude, knowledge and skills about sexuality education, which will generate a rippling effect when they themselves become teachers to benefit more students.

During my high school, a large proportion of male students in my class always talked about famous Japan pornography movie Girls, such as Sola Aoi, Shou Nishino and so on. Also some students involved into sexual service. One of my friend, Mark, called for a prostitute at his age of 16. He told me that he is curious about that and just want to have a try. When I knew I think that was a amazing thing at that age. Sex, is a thing fulfilled with purity and beauty. However, it has been mistranslated for people to persue pleasure. In China, sex should be introduced correctly but not in an obscure way. On China’s television screens, the advertisement of condoms are banned all year round but the advertisements of “Three-minute painless abortion” are active. We should treat sex in a positive way but not constantly avoiding.

In conclusion, sex education was originally a very sunny science. Because of society, parents and teachers do not correct guidance and education so sexual knowledge is artificially cast a veil. I think Children should be educated about sex. Not only will it inform them of a natural human behavior, but it is the most affective method for preventing STD's and unwanted pregnancies. Additionally when children know exactly what sex is, they can also know what molestation is, and are more likely to protect themselves or get help. Now living conditions are better, opening degree more and more is also high, many children are developing faster and faster. I believe that it is better to teach kids about sex than what to think about it or nothing at all. Therefore, sexual education should be a universal knowledge, it has drawn great attention of parents and the whole society, don't let the teenage sex education become a barrier to social development.
